Maine has over 60 lighthouses, from Whaleback Light just over the New Hampshire border, to the Owl's Head Lightstation near Rockland, northward to the red light shone from Bass Harbor Light at Blue Hill Bay, to the picturesque red and white striped West Quoddy Head Light. Take a ride along Rt1, take in the view, and stay at a Bed and Breakfast, or go camping along the coast!
Augusta - A very picturesque town with many cultural centers, Augustais the capitol of Maine. Tours of the State House, Hall of Flags, Maine State Library, and the Archives Buildidng are available.
Bath Iron Works - Located on Rt.1, Bath is an historic shipbuilding town, with many of the fine mansions form the years 1795 - 1900 surviving. Two site of the Maine Maritime Museum include the only remainiing shipyard where wooden sailing vessels were built.
Boothbay Harbor - Located on Maine's scenic coast, it's just a short drive to to the island town of Newagen, or take the seasonal ferry to Monhegan Island. Bath Iron Works is also nearby. Other short drives will let you visit the Ft. William Henry Memorial,Reid Recreational Area, the Fort Popham Memorial, orPopham Beach.

Penobscot Marine Museum -Located on Rt 1 along Maine's coast, seven buildings house the historical collections of ship models, charts, maritime art, and whaling memorabilia of the Penobscot Maritime Museum. Also nearby are Moose Point, Swan Lake, Fort Point, and Camden Hills state park.
Portland - Located on Maine's scenic coast on Interstate Rt 95,access to many areas is quick and easy. A short drive will get you to Sebago Lake, Wadsworth-Longfellow House, the Portland Head Light, or Two Lights, Cresent Beach, and Scarborough Beach recreation areas.
Rockland - is the home of the Farnsworth Library and art museum, which features paintings of Maine and other American works. The Farnsworth Homestead, one of the finest Victorian homes in the country, is adjacent. A ferry (toll) is available to North Haven Island and Metinicus Island, for some quiet relaxation.
