![]() | The Appalachian Trail - Leaving Massachusetts and entering Connecticut near Mt Riga State Park crosses Bear Mountain at 2316' upon entering the state. The trail rolls southward through Housatonic State Forest and Mohawk State Forest The trail passes along side the Housatonic River , taking a quick detour through Macedonia Brook State Park before relinking with the river. The trail exits Connecticut near Bulls Bridge, entering New York. |

The trail winds through northeast Connecticut, offering scenic views of the country side. For those Hikers that are really ambitiuos, the trail extends northeast to Douglas State Forest in Massachusetts. |
![]() | Hop River State Park Trail, branching from the Air Line State Park Trail at Rt 66 near Willamantic, winds approximately 15 miles to the northwest. This river can also be seen from a canoe or kayak, with an access point near Rt 6 at Rt 32. Remember to leave with everything you brought...to preserve the veiws available! |
![]() | Mansfield Hollow Widlife Area has several trails winding through the forest, and Mansfield Hollow Dam which is maintained by the US Army Corp., provides a lake with fishing and boating. Pack a lunch, take a ride, and relax! |
![]() | Located in eastern Connecticut on the Rhode Island border several trails meander through Pauchaug State Forest. A good place to start in is near the center of the park on Rt 165 near Voluntown, where you can hike north to Sterling Hill, south along Rt 49, west to Pachaug and Pachaug Pond or Hopeville Pond State Park, or out to Beach Pond on the eastern side. Part of Beach pond is in Rhode Island...Check fishing regulations! |
![]() | Just over the Massachusetts border, Nipmuck State Forest is accessible from Rt 198 in Woodstock Connecticut. A trail winds through the forest along Breakneck Brook, and extends down through the Yale University Forest to Natchaug State Forest for those who are avid hikers! The trail is also accesible from Rt 171 where the Nipmuck and Yale Forests meet. Spend a relaxing day along the Breakneck or Lebanon Brook within the Forest. |
